Memorial University joins the North American Early Adopter program for Leganto
Chicago, IL—January 8, 2016. Ex Libris® Group a ProQuest company, a leading global provider of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that Memorial University of Newfoundland, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, has added the Leganto reading-list solution to its suite of Ex Libris solutions. The university adopted the Primo® discovery solution, Alma® resource management solution, and Rosetta digital preservation solution earlier in 2015.
The newest addition to the Ex Libris product suite, Leganto is a standalone, cloud-based service which enables instructors to easily create, maintain, evaluate, and share readings lists. Through Leganto, students access their course materials and collaborate with instructors and peers. Thanks to seamless integration with the institution’s course management and library management systems, Leganto enables the library to become a more active partner in the institution’s teaching and learning processes and best serve the institution’s academic goals.
”The primary reason for selecting Leganto is to provide faculty and students with a system that enhances engagement with course material” Louise McGillis, Associate University Librarian, Grenfell Campus commented. ”This is achieved through the integration of Leganto with existing systems such as Alma, Primo and D2L. It will be easier for faculty to organize and upload course material in this system, for students to access and engage with the material and for librarians to check copyright, obtain physical copies, link journal articles and keep user statistics. We are very pleased to come on as an early adopter so that we can play a role in the development of the product to ensure it meets the needs of our users.”
Memorial University Libraries is partnering with Distance Education, Learning and Teaching Support (DELTS) on this implementation. Together, these two departments’ have extensive experience in the development of products and services to enhance teaching and learning and are excited to bring that expertise to the Leganto implementation.
Eric Hines, president of Ex Libris North America, remarked: ”I am delighted to see Memorial University add Leganto to the world-class service they provide to students and faculty via Alma, Primo, and Rosetta. There is growing interest in Leganto across North America and we are looking forward to welcoming other institutions to the early adopter program in the coming months. Joining the University’s Ex Libris technology framework, Leganto will enable Memorial to offer a collaborative and efficient reading-list service that will support instructors, students, and researchers, and create stronger ties to the campus for their large group of distance learners.”
