The Aleph integrated library system will transform the management of print and digitized collections in Russia’s oldest state library
Jerusalem, Israel—March 15, 2012. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that the National Library of Russia (NLR), in St. Petersburg, has decided to adopt the Aleph® integrated library system for the management of its vast print collections. Aleph will replace numerous locally developed systems that are currently used by the National Library.
”The decision to adopt Aleph marks a major change in our strategy,” commented Oleg Shorin, deputy director general for automation at the NLR. ”Our current, mostly homegrown library systems are no longer adequate for handling our extensive collections of printed and digitized materials. Aleph’s flexibility and multilingual capabilities—which, crucially, include Cyrillic—will increase efficiency, help librarians meet users’ needs, and strengthen the NLR’s role as a powerful center for research and Russian studies.”
”We are delighted to welcome the prestigious National Library of Russia to the global community of Ex Libris users,” remarked Ullrich Jüngling, Ex Libris vice president of sales for Central and East Europe. ”Joining 25 other national libraries throughout the world that deploy Aleph, the NLR is the latest major library in Russia to adopt the system, following the successful implementation by the Russian State Library, in Moscow. We believe that this decision sends a strong signal to other Russian institutions.”
