The Primo discovery and delivery solution from Ex Libris enables Oxford University users to access the institution’s rich collection of resources from any location
London, UK – October 8, 2008. Ex Libris Group is pleased to announce that the SOLO (Search Oxford Libraries Online) one-stop search and delivery solution, powered by Ex Libris’ Primo®, has gone live at Oxford University. Using this new online integrated search service, users can access the library’s major information resources, regardless of type, format, or location, and receive enriched results quickly.
By enabling SOLO users to cross-search selective databases via a unified interface, Primo facilitates the discovery of interdisciplinary resources at the Bodleian, University, and College libraries. These resources include OLIS (Oxford Libraries Information System), the university’s union catalog of printed and electronic books; ORA (Oxford University Research Archive); OxLIP+ (currently over 800 e-resource databases); and Oxford University e-Journals (with subscriptions to more than 28,000 e-journals). Search results are presented with a variety of links that help users quickly find what they need. Flexible personalization services offer users options such as requesting alerts, saving searches, and exporting results to bibliographic management packages. The single-sign-on feature enables users to access subscription resources from any location, on campus or off.
Dr Sarah Thomas, Bodley’s librarian and director of Oxford University Library Services, noted, ”The Oxford University libraries have vast and complex collections of e-resources and printed material. Thanks to Primo from Ex Libris, SOLO brings all our collections together at the user’s fingertips and offers a completely new approach to browsing our resources. It is a powerful tool which makes our collections even more accessible to users worldwide.”
”We are delighted that following its very thorough selection process, Oxford University libraries chose Primo as the basis for its SOLO service,” commented Matti Shem Tov, president and CEO of Ex Libris. ”It has been a great pleasure to continue our close cooperation with Oxford University libraries, which began with the rapid implementation of the SFX® OpenURL link resolver in 2007 and the MetaLib® gateway and metasearch solution earlier in 2008. Following SOLO’s debut, we are looking forward to making additional resources from the University of Oxford’s rich collections, such as historic archives, accessible via SOLO.”
