The integration leverages Syndetics ICE™ data to enhance the search experience of Primo users
London, UK—July 17, 2012. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that Cardiff University in Wales has added the Syndetics ICE™ (Indexed Content Enrichment) service to the University’s LibrarySearch installation of the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution. Syndetics ICE adds tables of contents, summaries, and abstracts to the Primo records. In addition to supporting the search, Syndetics ICE data is displayed to users as part of the search results.
Sue Stevens, Head of Library Systems at Cardiff University’s Information Services Directorate, commented: ”Our staff members have been very pleased by the impact of Syndetics ICE on our Primo search results. Users are now finding greater numbers of relevant records because the searches cover tables of contents and summaries as well as titles, subjects, and other bibliographic data.”
Linda Davies, Cardiff University’s Library Business Change Manager for the project, added: ”The positive feedback we’ve received from our users show that enabling searching of tables of contents via Primo helps them find the precise materials they need. Comments included: In every search I’ve tried, the number of books found has doubled compared to the results on the catalog. Finding a chapter in a book, when previously I could only find a book title, is a huge improvement’; and the option to see the whole table of contents for more of the books is very useful. I can find a lot more relevant information than before.”
”Primo’s unmatched flexibility enables libraries to seamlessly integrate data such as that provided by Syndetics ICE for an enhanced search experience and comprehensive display of results,” remarked Ido Peled, Primo product manager. ”This integration was carried out as part of Cardiff University’s initial Primo implementation and is the result of close collaboration between Ex Libris and the library’s system experts. Detailed instructions on how to index Syndetics ICE data in Primo are now available to all Primo customers on EL Commons, our collaborative platform.”
