The two colleges become the first academic institutions in Denmark to select this leading library management platform
London, UK—October 5, 2016. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that two schools in Copenhagen—Professionshøjskolen Metropol (Metropolitan University College) and University College Capital (UCC)—are to be the first Danish universities to implement the Ex Libris Alma® library management platform.
Peter Flodin, library director at Metropol, explained: ”Up to now, we have used the open-source Integra ILS and Artesis Web from DBC, who have decided to discontinue support. Given our strategy of increasing the use of electronic and digital resources, we need a platform that can manage the rapid growth in the number of e-resources that we are experiencing. In addition we are confident that we will receive full and continuous support from Ex Libris.”
Palle Bergendorff, library director at UCC, commented: ”At the moment, we cannot offer users a unified search experience because we have one service for local print materials and another for electronic resources. The default search is in the print-resource service, so only 3% of our users proactively search the separate e-resource metadata. We have therefore decided to exploit the proven print and digital resource management of Alma and the features in Primo that make both print and digital items more discoverable.”
Both UCC and Metropol will also be taking advantage of the statistical information provided by Alma and Primo to help the colleges optimise collections, improve their users’ search experience and demonstrate the value of the libraries’ contribution to teaching and learning. UCC and Metropol are also looking forward to the possibility of collaborating with other libraries in Copenhagen and across Denmark.
”We are particularly interested in sharing data with other Alma customers,” noted Flodin. ”As an open, cloud-based platform, Alma makes collaboration, learning from other institutions and the exchange of data and knowledge much easier.”
Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, remarked: ”We are delighted to welcome Metropol and UCC, our first academic Alma customers in Denmark, to the increasing number of institutions across the Nordic region that are now joining our ever-growing global Alma community.”
