This initiative will streamline resource management, facilitate the discovery and delivery of print and electronic resources, and simplify the development and use of reading lists
London, UK—December 12, 2017. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that Scotland’s Robert Gordon University (RGU) has chosen the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform, Primo discovery and delivery solution, and Leganto course reading list solution. These products will be replacing RGU’s legacy software from SirsiDynix, EBSCO, Talis, and Clio.
The move to the Ex Libris solutions will help RGU manage print and electronic resources and licenses efficiently with streamlined workflows and better integration with third-party systems. It will also enable the library to deliver the essential student experience of a single, user-friendly interface through which searchers can access the entire wealth of the library’s resources and discover items in a variety of ways. Students will also benefit from easy access to all their course materials using an optimized user experience similar to that in Primo.
”Qualitative feedback from library users indicated that the time was right to fundamentally review the workflows in the library and to improve the student experience,” said RGU Library Director Margaret Buchan. ”Our ability to effectively manage the life cycle of electronic resources is currently hampered by the lack of flexible library analytics and an electronic resource management function. In addition, IT and library staff time is often spent carrying out hosting tasks and backing up, maintaining, and upgrading the library system, servers, and client applications. The cloud-based SaaS solutions delivered by Ex Libris will free staff to focus on strengthening the library’s impact on teaching and learning.”
Margaret Buchan continued: ”We decided to work with Ex Libris because they understand the landscape in which modern higher education institutions work. Alma, Primo, and Leganto form a unified platform that has been built from the ground up as a modern system. Their open architecture allows for genuine integrations of library functions with the wider university, supplier, and community ecosystems.”
The contract was concluded as part of the Scottish Confederation of University and Research Libraries (SCURL) and Advanced Procurement for Universities and Colleges (APUC) framework.
Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, commented, ”We are delighted that Robert Gordon University has joined the community of Alma, Primo, and Leganto customers. The university’s choice will help it earn the maximum return on library investments as a result of efficient workflows, optimal use of all library resources, and informed decision-making based on robust analytics.”
