Leganto reading lists connect students and lecturers with library resources and facilitate both on-campus and remote learning
Jerusalem, Israel—April 28, 2021. Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Ex Libris Leganto® course reading list solution has been rolled out at South Africa’s Stellenbosch University. Lecturers now benefit from simple end-to-end workflows for creating, managing, and sharing reading lists, while students can rapidly access their course content directly from the learning management system.
Before implementing the Leganto solution, Stellenbosch University used multiple approaches to the delivery of reading lists and their content to students. As a result, students had no consistent way of accessing course resources. In addition, none of the methods in use was conducive to the current paradigm of remote or contactless learning, and the lack of analytics data meant that the library did not have a comprehensive picture of usage or of the various types of resources assigned to students.
The Leganto tool is seen as an innovative solution to increase the visibility and ease of use of reading lists where the students most need them.
Tightly integrated with the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform and the university’s learning management system, the Leganto solution provides an environment in which students can actively engage with their lecturers, their peers, and their own learning. With the Leganto rollout, the feedback from lecturers has been very positive. They view the Leganto solution as a helpful tool that can be applied in different ways to facilitate their online teaching.
Benefits of the Leganto solution for the Stellenbosch library staff include improvements on internal workflows that significantly reduce the time spent on manual tasks. In addition, the process of creating Leganto reading lists offers new opportunities for collaboration between library staff, lecturers, and blended learning coordinators. Finally, Leganto analytics will help the library understand how students are using their course reading lists and will provide a basis for collection management decision-making.
