The Ex Libris Group and USACO Corporation, distributor of Ex Libris products in Japan, are pleased to announce that the Japanese Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Research Information Center (AFFRIC) Library has chosen the MetaLib® library portal to facilitate the access to information by the Centers researchers. AFFRIC provides reference, depository, and other services for the collection, control, processing, treatment, retrieval, and supply of information concerning research and experiments related to agriculture, forestry, and fisheries in Japan and abroad.
The Ex Libris MetaLib portal offers users easy access to libraries’ e-collections. With MetaLib, users can find resources relevant to their area of research and can search simultaneously across a range of diverse resources. For librarians, MetaLib provides tools for managing hybrid information resources under one umbrella, be they local or remote, freely available or licensed.
MetaLib is fully integrated with SFX® to allow onward navigation from records that MetaLib has retrieved. SFX–the original OpenURL link server–provides users with context-sensitive services that librarians define on the basis of their institution’s e-collections and policies. Such services, which are dynamically created, can include links to the full text of an article, the OPAC (for local holdings), preferred document-delivery suppliers, Web-based resources, local information repositories, and more.
We are pleased to welcome the Japanese Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Research Information Center Library to the Ex Libris customer base in Japan, commented Yutaka Masuda of the USACO Corporation. Our Japanese customer base includes such distinguished research libraries as the Riken Kobe Institute Center for Developmental Biology (CDB), the World Health Organization Kobe Centre, and the Nihon University and Sapporo Medical University libraries.
About the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Research Information Center Library:
Established in 1978 under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF), the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Research Information Center Library contains an extensive database of publications relating to agricultural subjects and also serves as a branch of Japans parliamentary library, the National Diet Library. The center collects information and various materials through exchanges with the National Diet Library and branch libraries of other ministries and agencies.
