The NLR’s vast user community now enjoys unified discovery and access to library services via the Primo interface
Hamburg, Germany—January 23 2014. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that the National Library of Russia (NLR) has gone live with the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution and the Ex Libris Aleph® integrated library system, which replace their locally developed system. In a move that consolidates over 25 databases under one umbrella, the NLR is now able to offer its users the comprehensive, relevant discovery experience enjoyed by over 2,000 institutions worldwide that are using Primo.
Oleg Shorin, deputy general director for automation at the NLR and project leader for the implementation, commented: “Aleph is the foundation of our library’s information system, upon which we will continue creating new services for readers. Aleph will enable our users to focus on reading and research rather than spend time searching and waiting.”
Consolidating their multiple databases in Aleph has enabled the NLR to devise new, more efficient workflows. Integrated with Aleph, Primo offers users a single search box for the library’s extensive collections, along with options to refine search results with facets and filters. OPAC via Primo functionality enables users to submit hold requests and receive notifications without leaving the Primo interface.
Anton Likhomanov, general director of the NLR, added: “Libraries need to meet the expectations of present-day readers, most of whom are young people accustomed to using web-based systems and being able to access all of the information that they require at the touch of a button. Now that we are live with Primo and Aleph, the NLR will become not only a place where people can acquire knowledge easily and quickly but also a partner, research assistant, and modern working environment for our users.”
Ullrich Jüngling, vice president of sales for central, eastern, and southeastern Europe, commented: ”We are delighted that another major institution in Russia has decided to implement Aleph and Primo.
