Primo will provide Royal Library users with inspiring discovery and intelligent presentation of qualified resources
_x000D_Ex Libris Group and Fujitsu Services, the exclusive distributor of Ex Libris products in Denmark and Sweden, are pleased to announce that the Royal Library of Denmark, which serves as the country’s national library and the library of Copenhagen University, has chosen the Primo® discovery and delivery solution to provide the institutions’ users with a state-of the-art interface for all local and remote scholarly information resources. Primo is designed to enable libraries to offer users an experience and services in line with their expectations to receive relevant information quickly and efficiently wherever and whenever they need it. The Royal Library of Denmark is one of 28 national libraries that are running Ex Libris products.
_x000D_“Our students, professors, and other users have expressed their need for a more creative interface to our resources,” explained Erland Kolding Nielsen, director general of the Royal Library. “Early on, we realized that Primo could be the answer to this need. The challenge was to establish a Danish consortium consisting of other innovative research libraries with the same need for Primo, to enter into a development partnership with Ex Libris.
_x000D_“As a research library, we must provide a unique experience that will encourage discovery while providing an intelligent presentation of qualified resources. The Primo system enables users to search all of our information sources via one interface. In addition to our library collections–held in nine different databases–a search can include valuable results from databases such as the Archive for Danish Literature and the Portrait Collection, which contains short biographies and portraits of famous people, primarily Danes. We believe that Primo will shed light on some underexposed collections by drawing the attention of our users to resources that they did not know existed.”
_x000D_“The fact that Primo address elements from Web 2.0,” added Kolding Nielsen, “enables the library to provide functionality and features that users are familiar with from some popular Web-based services.”

_x000D_The Royal Library of Denmark was established around 1648 when Frederik III appointed the library’s first librarian. During Frederik’s reign, four prominent Danish libraries were acquired. These libraries, along with the king’s own library, became the core of the Royal Library.
