Migration to the cloud will enable both institutions to provide next-generation services to faculty, students, and library staff
Hamburg, Germany—April 24, 2014. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that Dresden University of Applied Sciences (HTW Dresden) and Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK Leipzig) have opted to deploy the Ex Libris Alma unified resource management solution and the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution.
The universities selected these solutions to adapt their library services to the changes in users’ preferences that have occurred in recent years and the dramatic increase in the quantity of electronic resources in the libraries’ collections. Because Alma and Primo will be deployed as cloud-based solutions, library staff will be relieved of hardware- management chores and the installation of updates. As a result, the staff will be able to devote more time to core library tasks.
Petra-Sibylle Stenzel, library head at HTW Dresden, commented: ”We are convinced that the combination of Alma and Primo is the way forward for our institution. The success of both solutions has been proven clearly in the United States and Europe, and we anticipate that Alma and Primo will more than fulfill our high expectations. I am especially looking forward to the unified management of all resource types and to new opportunities for communication and cooperation between our internal teams and between our library and external networks. Closer to home, Alma Analytics will provide insightful statistical data at the push of a button and make it easier to ensure that acquisitions are tailored to our needs. We are hoping—along with other libraries in the German-speaking world—to customize Alma to address some of the specific requirements of our region.”
Dr. Klaus-Steffen Dittrich, director of the library at HTWK Leipzig, stated: ”Alma and Primo will not only enable us to use one solution for managing all the resource types housed by the library but will also provide our users with a single interface for searching for all resources. Additionally, we will benefit greatly from the cloud-based infrastructure of the solutions, which will dramatically reduce maintenance and IT costs.”
”We are delighted to welcome Dresden and Leipzig Universities of Applied Sciences to the growing Alma community in the German-speaking region,” commented Ullrich Jüngling, Ex Libris vice president of sales for central, eastern, and southeastern Europe. ”These universities’ selection of Alma and Primo demonstrates that our strategic direction is successfully addressing customer needs and providing libraries with a leading platform on which they can develop next-generation services and raise productivity.”
