A single point of access to the library’s collections and the content-neutral ranking of search results were major factors in the University’s decision.
Sasso Marconi (Bologna), Italy—June 25, 2014. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that the University of Bergamo has decided to adopt the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution, joining the worldwide Primo community of more than 2,100 institutions. The Primo Central Index’s breadth and depth of content, together with its ability to index collections and rank search results with complete impartiality, were of particular importance to Bergamo in this decision.
“We chose Primo because it is a web-scale discovery system that will enable our users to access our libraries’ many diverse resources through a single search,” said Ennio Ferrante, head of library services at the University of Bergamo. “The University community will benefit from the improved visibility of our extensive electronic collections; and the coverage, reliability, and ease of use of Primo will enhance the research experience. We are looking forward to providing a multilingual research environment that is fully integrated with our library information system and accessible from mobile devices. With Primo, we know that we can rely on an established, widely used product from a content-neutral partner.”
Liliana Morotti, general manager of Ex Libris Italy, commented: “We are very pleased to welcome the University of Bergamo to the expanding Primo community in Italy. The University’s decision highlights both the quality of Primo and the extensive coverage of Primo Central, which together enable a user to find resources that are relevant to his or her needs, regardless of the resources’ origin or format.”
