Offering long-term value, the combined platform will help drive innovative, strategic library services
Chicago, IL—March 22, 2017. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) has chosen the Ex Libris Alma® library management service and Primo® discovery and delivery solution. UNC Charlotte’s J. Murrey Atkins Library selected the Ex Libris solutions as an integrated, best-in-class implementation to meet patron expectations and take the library into the future. Alma and Primo will replace Atkins’ existing OCLC® WorldShare® Management Services platform.
During the evaluation process, UNC Charlotte’s J. Murrey Atkins Library defined a number of goals for the new system, including an increase in efficiency, the streamlining of management workflows, and a powerful, modern search service. The Ex Libris solutions were selected to fulfill all of these goals. With the cloud-based, multitenant Alma architecture, software updates are automatic and require no effort on the part of library staff. Alma workflows streamline e-resource management while the Primo discovery experience offers library patrons a customizable interface, comprehensive search technology, and personalized result lists that support the needs of researchers and students.
Dr. Anne Cooper Moore, dean of J. Murrey Atkins Library, noted, ”Among the features that particularly excite us are the full integration of the Alma platform with RFID inventory control and physical collection security systems as well as the platform’s robust API capabilities, which will facilitate the integration of our secondary systems. The business intelligence and analytics components of Alma and Primo will enable our librarians to create reports on demand without any special training. Finally, we are looking forward to benefiting from and contributing to the extensive Ex Libris developer community.”
”We are pleased to welcome the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to our growing Alma and Primo customer community,” commented Eric Hines, president of Ex Libris North America. ”We are excited to partner with UNC-Charlotte and to provide the ability to eliminate redundant systems and processes so that UNC-Charlotte can focus on providing strategic library services to their patrons.”
