Rosetta will safeguard future access to the University’s digital collections and scholarly research data
London, United Kingdom—April 21, 2015. Ex Libris® Group, a global leader in library automation services, is pleased to announce that the University of Sheffield in the UK has selected the Rosetta digital asset management and preservation solution. Rosetta will ensure the sustainable preservation of the digitised objects created by the University Library’s Special Collections Department and the National Fairground Archive—a unique collection of videos, texts, audio files, and pictures about the culture and history of travelling fairs and entertainment—as well as the large collection of University’s born-digital material which includes scholarly research data, administrative records, and departmental publications.
”In line with the University’s strategy to establish an enduring digital archive, Rosetta will enable us to develop a sustainable digital preservation programme, underpinned by a full lifecycle infrastructure for the management and preservation of digital objects,” stated Jacky Hodgson, Head of Special Collections at the University of Sheffield Library. ”Thanks to its compliance with the OAIS Reference Model and seamless interoperability with our internal and third-party systems, Rosetta gives us the opportunity to maintain our position in the UK academic field as a digital innovator. We are also looking forward to being part of the global, proactive Rosetta user community.”
Koby Rosenthal, corporate VP and general manager of Ex Libris Europe, commented: ”I am proud to welcome the University of Sheffield to the international Rosetta community, which includes academic, research and national libraries; museums; and archives. Sheffield’s decision affirms the leading role of Ex Libris in delivering long-term preservation solutions for scholarly and cultural organizations.”
