About Tsinghua University:
Tsinghua University, originally Tsinghua Xuetang, was established in 1911 as a preparatory school for students who would be sent by the government to study in universities in the United States. Currently, the university consists of 47 departments in 13 schools, including the schools of sciences, architecture, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, information science and technology, humanities and social sciences, economics and management, law, arts and design, public policy and management, aerospace, journalism, and communication. A medical school is currently being established. The university has over 7,000 faculty and staff, including more than 1,000 full and 1,000 associate professors. The student body consists of over 20,000 students, including 12,000 undergraduates, 6,200 masters degree candidates, and 2,800 doctoral candidates.
The Tsinghua University Library was established in 1912, just one year after the university was built. The 28,000 square meters of floor space house a total collection of nearly three million items including Chinese and Western language book and periodical collections. In recent years, an increasing number of electronic and virtual resources have been made available in the Library or online. These form an information system which is multi-directional and level, open, efficient, and service-centered.
