The New Zealand institute is adopting the Alma library management solution and migrating to a cloud deployment of Primo
Adelaide, Australia—May 8, 2014. Ex Libris® Group is pleased to announce that Unitec Institute of Technology has selected the Ex Libris Alma library management service and is consolidating its Ex Libris solutions into the cloud-based platform of Alma and Primo, unifying both resource management and resource discovery.
In the rapidly changing academic landscape, Unitec Institute of Technology found that Alma and Primo together offered the best solution for its users and staff. As a fully cloud-based solution, Alma offers extensive opportunities for collaboration with libraries worldwide, and its open interfaces enable the library to integrate with other systems on campus and externally. In parallel with adopting Alma, Unitec has moved its Ex Libris Primo implementation to a cloud deployment, thereby relieving library staff of unnecessary technical burdens.
Among its reasons for selecting Alma from the available commercial systems, Unitec cited the solution’s energetic user community and comprehensive vendor support. The institute also considered Alma to be a ”strategic fit” with both its own Technology Strategy, and a recent look-ahead report for the Library.
Peter Hughes, Unitec Library Director, commented: ”Unitec Library is currently reviewing the nature of our services and service delivery, both within Unitec and also in the wider library environment. Underpinning this review is our requirement for an innovative, future-focused enterprise system and search and discovery layer. We’ve chosen Alma and Primo as we think these solutions best meet our needs. We’ve been impressed thus far by the collaborative evolution of Alma: its cloud-based and multi-tenanted solution (which aligns with Unitec’s own Technology Strategy) and its rich functionality. We also look forward to being an active member of Alma’s growing community, particularly in Australasia.”
”As a leader in the technology field, Unitec’s choice of Alma is very gratifying for Ex Libris,” remarked Holley Dumble, Ex Libris sales director for Australia and New Zealand. ”The regional Alma community is expanding rapidly, and this statement from Unitec strengthens our commitment to delivering powerful, unified resource management and delivery solutions to academic libraries in New Zealand and Australia.”
