The university library is replacing multiple systems with Alma to streamline operations and provide insightful analytics
Chicago, IL—February 25, 2014. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT), has selected the Ex Libris Alma library management solution. Keen to promote its vision for innovative library services, UT is adding Alma to the university libraries’ implementation of the Ex Libris Primo® solution for unified discovery.
After an extensive evaluation of commercial options, and having used the Aleph integrated library system for many years, the UT Libraries selected Alma to provide a library management service that would transform library operations and consolidate numerous applications into a single, unified platform. As a cloud-based solution, Alma will reduce the time that library staff members spend on technical tasks, further contributing to the efficiencies delivered by the Alma unified workflows for print and electronic resources.
“Alma’s cloud-hosted environment and automated workflows will streamline our operations and save a lot of staff time and duplication of effort,” commented Dr. Steven Escar Smith, professor and dean of libraries. “Adopting Alma will allow us to eliminate many stand-alone processes running on local servers. We also look forward to Alma’s more comprehensive analytics to inform our acquisitions decisions and better meet our users’ needs.”
Mark Triest, president of Ex Libris North America, remarked: ”We are delighted to welcome the University of Tennessee’s flagship campus to the rapidly growing Alma community, which now numbers 330 institutions. Having seen Alma in operation at many institutions, I am looking forward to watching UT experience similar benefits, for both librarians and users. The Ex Libris approach of offering libraries unified resource management along with unified discovery is proving successful at academic and research libraries throughout North America and worldwide.”
