Utah, an ARL member, joins over 150 institutions worldwide that have opted for the unified resource management solution from Ex Libris
Chicago, IL—June 20, 2013. Ex Libris Group®, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that the University of Utah has selected the next-generation Ex Libris Alma library management service. Having implemented the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution as a single search interface for the university library’s local and global collections, Alma now provides the University of Utah a unified solution for managing all its resources at its Marriott Library, Eccles Health Sciences Library, Quinney Law Library, and McKay Music Library.
”The decision to adopt Alma helps us fulfill one of the university’s seven strategic commitments,” commented Ann Marie Breznay, Associate Dean for Budget and Planning and interim director of library computing at the University of Utah J. Willard Marriott Library. ”By transforming library operations, we can now devote more staff effort to continuing our support of users in cutting-edge teaching and research to fostering innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.”
Alma is delivered on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) basis and as such is upgraded, enhanced, and maintained without the involvement of library staff. ”One of the drivers for adopting the cloud-based Alma solution was to leave behind the technical maintenance of local systems,” Ms Breznay continued. ”Another important feature for us was the seamless integration of our new library management solution with our Primo discovery environment to support the diverse group of users that we serve. Utah has been very happy with the Aleph system and looks forward to further streamlining workflows and automating tasks with Alma. This frees up staff to help us focus on delivering a range of new services to our students, faculty, and researchers.”
Mark Triest, president of Ex Libris North America, remarked: ”We are honored to continue our long-standing relationship with the University of Utah—an institution known for its rich culture of research and innovation. Having implemented Primo for discovery and delivery in 2010 and Rosetta, in 2012, for the management and preservation of digital collections, the university is poised to rethink the way in which information will be managed and accessed well into the future.”
