The 100,000 VCCS students will enjoy an improved research experience and librarians will have more time for expanding library services
Chicago, Illinois—-November 7, 2017. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS) has chosen the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform and will integrate it with its statewide implementation of the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution. Alma will replace the Ex Libris Aleph® integrated library system. The libraries of the nearly two dozen community colleges that constitute the VCCS will have the time-saving benefit of centralized acquisitions and collaborative decision-making.
”We are pleased that the rigorous VCCS search for a new integrated library system was so successful,” commented Tara Cassidy, director of library services at Virginia’s Community Colleges. ”VCCS will implement Ex Libris Alma with Primo in response to the changing needs of our students, our libraries, and evolving standards within the industry. As we strive to improve the community college student experience and equip our transfer students with the research skills and knowledge needed to succeed at a four-year institution, this project will put our library technology infrastructure on equal footing with that of our transfer partners and peer institutions. Our 23 college libraries can now look forward to providing library services via a modern system.”
Cassidy continued: ”The new library system will enable our staff to focus on supporting teaching and learning rather than dealing with siloed systems and ad hoc manual processes. The ability to quickly generate meaningful reports will inform decision-making for library operations, purchases, and collection analysis in a consistent way. With Alma, VCCS will also be able to make full use of our significant investment in electronic resources, effectively manage assets, and support emergent and increasingly complex e-resource licensing and access models.”
”Ex Libris is excited to welcome Virginia’s Community Colleges to our active Alma user community,” said Eric Hines, president of Ex Libris North America. ”Alma will enable the VCCS to manage its comprehensive e-resource collection more efficiently, streamline workflows, and encourage new library services.”
