Rich functionality, personalized relevance ranking, and article recommendations drew this ARL member to the Primo discovery solution
Chicago, IL—January 21, 2013. Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that the University Libraries of Washington University in St. Louis have selected a cloud-based installation of the Primo® discovery and delivery solution. Washington University, a member of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), has also subscribed to the bX Recommender, one of the bX suite of usage-based services.
Washington University chose Primo after evaluating the major commercial products in the discovery market. The university’s analysis showed that Primo offers a unique combination of a fully supported cloud environment and optimal flexibility for the library. Associate University Librarian Jeff Huestis commented: ”This is an important move for the University Libraries and one that is personally very exciting for me as a long-time advocate of adding serendipity to the discovery experience. Washington University’s large research library system has significant technical resources available, and we want to maximize those resources without the burden of maintaining a local infrastructure. Primo provides that flexibility via its cloud deployment. We also value the leadership that Ex Libris has demonstrated in the library technology industry, exemplified by the Company’s active role in movements such as the NISO Open Discovery Initiative.”
Mark Triest, president of Ex Libris North America, remarked: ”We’re proud to welcome Washington University in St. Louis to the worldwide Primo community of over 1200 academic and research libraries. Library users at Washington University will no doubt enjoy the personalized relevance ranking that the Primo ScholarRank technology offers and will benefit from the integration of article recommendations, which take the discovery experience in unexpected directions.”
