Ex Libris™, part of Clarivate, is excited to announce that the Duke University Libraries have successfully upgraded their resource management capabilities by adopting the Alma library management system and integrating it with multiple technology platforms. The selection and use of Alma enables Duke Libraries to execute their long-term strategic technology vision to address and best meet library, patron, and university needs.

Duke and Ex Libris, trusted and long-term partners, collaborated on a swift implementation of Alma in under a year. Alma is streamlining the everyday work of Duke library staff, by aligning processes and simplifying the management of the 7.5 million physical and electronic resources that comprise the Libraries’ collections. Specifically, it is enhancing core functions for the Libraries’ operations—including selection, licensing, metadata management and circulation—while also integrating systems for interoperability and accessibility.

"I have been pleased and impressed with how smoothly the transition has gone since we went live, and how quickly we've been able to integrate Alma into our existing digital ecosystem and workflows."

“This is a significant milestone for the Duke University Libraries, and for our many staff who have been working behind the scenes to learn and implement Alma over the last year,” said Joseph A. Salem, Jr., Rita DiGiallonardo Holloway University Librarian and Vice Provost for Library Affairs. “I have been pleased and impressed with how smoothly the transition has gone since we went live, and how quickly we’ve been able to integrate Alma into our existing digital ecosystem and workflows.”

“We’re proud to have leveraged a cooperative approach to help Duke go live with Alma, one that relied on each other’s professional, knowledgeable staff and our straightforward, proven library management technology,” commented Asaf Kline, Vice President, Library Solutions at Ex Libris, part of Clarivate. “It’s also great to see Duke staff already become active, contributing members of our user community and we certainly look forward to collaborating with them as we continue to create additional, advanced capabilities for all libraries to use.”

Duke Libraries join nearly 2400 institutions that are live with the Alma cloud-based platform. They’ll benefit from continued training, support, and enriched services based on an extensive, two-year forward looking Alma product roadmap – which will add to current Linked Open Data services and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
