Key reasons for their choice were the customization options and a feature-rich back office

We are pleased to announce that the European University Institute (EUI) in Fiesole, Italy, has chosen Primo and Primo Central. They have opted for Primo and the Primo Central Index so that it could offer its user community a unified search interface for its wealth of specialized resources. Along with the system’s customization capabilities, the ease of a cloud-based solution made Primo the most suitable option for the EUI. The cloud deployment will spare the Institute’s staff members the burden of maintenance while also enabling them to modify many aspects of the system.

We talked to Tommaso Giordano, Director of EUI Library, who commented “Our decision to adopt Primo followed a careful evaluation process which lasted 18 months. The extensive electronic collections indexed in Primo Central played a key role in our choice, together with the presence of a support structure in Europe. In addition, some of the features in the back office for managing Primo played an important role in our decision. We were interested in the system’s customization possibilities, particularly the control over the blending of results from local and global collections.”

We also spoke to Liliana Morotti, General Manager of Ex Libris Italy, who said that she was delighted to welcome the prestigious European University Institute to the expanding Italian and European Primo communities: “Their decision shows that our discovery and delivery strategy, particularly our commitment to content neutrality, reflects the strategic priorities of academic and research libraries.”
