University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions Library Consortium (USMAI) and its member libraries have successfully launched the Alma library management system and Primo discovery service, becoming the 47th consortium to go live with Alma and Primo.

The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) will upgrade its e-resource management capabilities using Alma Starter, which offers a unified approach to discovery through Primo, provides intelligent recommendation services rooted in hard data, and facilitates informed decision-making via intelligent analytics.

Ex Libris, part of Clarivate, has launched the beta program for Primo Research Assistant and Summon Research Assistant, which use generative AI to enhance library searches. These tools leverage a RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) architecture and the Ex Libris Central Discovery Index to provide semantic search, source referencing, and more. The beta encompasses 18 institutions across 10 countries, representing diverse cultural and language backgrounds. The tool utilizes the Clarivate Academic AI platform, ensuring a secure environment for deploying Large Language Models (LLMs).

Libraries with PressReader subscriptions can now seamlessly offer patrons access to a vast array of just-published newspaper and magazine content directly within the Primo user interface, enhancing research capabilities and fostering information literacy.

Starting in May 2024, Primo™ will offer Linked Open Data integration, while Alma™ supports the use of BIBFRAME records throughout the system.
